AEW Didn’t Know How Bad CM Punk’s Injury Was Until Friday Afternoon

CM Punk beat Adam Page at AEW Double Or Nothing to become the new AEW World Champion and fans couldn’t have been more glad. Fans expected another Summer Of Punk run, but that was cut short after recent events. In fact, AEW didn’t even know how bad Punk’s injury was until Friday afternoon.

Punk’s world came crashing down on him as he revealed that he is injured and will undergo surgery on this week’s episode of AEW Rampage. A new system to crown the interim AEW World Champion was made official as well.

According to a report by Mike Johnson of PWInsider, the fact that Punk actually needed surgery for his injury was not even realized until Friday afternoon. Right after that, Punk let fans know about his announcement on social media.

We are told there is no definitive word yet on how long CM Punk will be out after he has surgery on his foot.  AEW was aware he hurt himself after the six man tag on Wednesday but didn’t get confirmation surgery would be required until Friday afternoon, a short time before last night’s broadcast.

CM Punk is also unlikely to be out of action for long time. Ryback was also happy about CM Punk’s injury. It remains to be seen when the Second City Saint will be back.
