WWE has filed a new trademark in the lead up to WrestleMania. “RKO” was protected with a filing by the company on March 28, 2022. The description notes that the mark will be used for all manners of new merchandise.

Most fans are familiar with what an RKO is. Randy Orton has used the move (essentially a Diamond Cutter/Ace Crusher) to incredible success. The “RKO out of nowhere” meme made Orton a legitimate mainstream viral star.

Orton has recently been teaming with Riddle and the two are the reigning Raw Tag Team Champions. RK-Bro has proven incredibly popular. The team has enjoyed a very entertaining feud over the titles with Alpha Academy.

WWE also filed a trademark for a new NXT ring name. Sloane Jacobs has already debuted in WWE, facing Nikkita Lyons on this week’s episode. That name got the standard treatment for new trademark registrations of names for in-ring talent.

The RKO filing appears to be mainly for use in merchandise sales. As always, a ton of different items are listed, although many or most will never be produced. WWE is just covering their bases. You can check out the description below:

“Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment”

Randy Orton and Matt Riddle have a ton of momentum and the fans are on their side going into their tag title match with Otis and Chad Gable at WrestleMania. The match is set to take place on night 2 of the mega event. Fans can watch WrestleMania 38 in its entirety on Peacock.
