AEW has a roster full of stars, but Joey Janela will not continue as one of them. There was also some heat on him before he decided to make his departure and not accept a new contract from Tony Khan.

Joey Janela confirmed that he will not sign a new contract with AEW. He also wishes that Tony Khan’s company wasn’t being so “radio silent” about the whole situation.

PW Insider went on to report that he got a lot of heat from the Eddie Kingston injury that changed so many television plans. It was also said that there is an internal belief within the company that it was hard to break that reputation of being a dangerous opponent.

In asking around today, AEW sources confirmed that Janela’s suspicions were 100% right and that there was a lot of heat on him for the Kingston injury, as it prevented Kingston from traveling for several weeks and changed plans for TV and the Jericho feud as the promotion waited for Kingston to heal.

Janela was also right in that there was an internal belief that there several talents had been hurt while working with him in the ring, which obviously worked against him.

As he noted, it was hard to break that reputation. Janela had not been brought in by the company since the Charlotte taping.  We are told he is not expected to be utilized again before his current deal expires, which is late April.

We’ll have to see what kind of noise Joey Janela makes in the pro wrestling world from this point on. He still has GCW and will likely keep making waves for years to come. You can also never say never about a return to AEW.
