All Elite Wrestling (AEW) is continuing to move forward without Cody Rhodes. The former TNT Champion and wife Brandi Rhodes parted ways with the Jacksonville-based promotion last month.

During Wednesday’ media call, AEW President and CEO Tony Khan revealed he tried his best to retain Rhodes and thought at one point that he would succeed in keeping him with the company.

Khan said he tried to negotiate a longer agreement beyond the option years with Rhodes. Unfortunately, the two sides couldn’t agree to a new deal and it became apparent that Rhodes was leaving AEW.

“It was very sad to see Cody and Brandi leave AEW. I haven’t said much, but what I do have to say is very positive. I thank them for helping grow the company and I wish them the best.”

Khan added that he thinks highly of Rhodes and would’ve loved if the former Executive Vice President remained with the company. That said, he’s confident in the promotion’s ability to put on great shows without Rhodes.
