Toni Storm was just getting some screen time and it appeared as though she was going to chase Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Title. Now her time with WWE is over, but it might have been her call.

According to a follow-up on Fightful Select, Sean Sapp reports that there is a belief within WWE that Toni Storm requested her release from WWE. Either way, her departure would still likely come with a 90-day non-compete clause.

I spoke to within WWE believe Toni Storm asked for her release from the company. The memo that went out did not list budget cuts as the reason, as has been tradition of late.

This is an interesting situation, because Toni Storm was a fan favorite and just getting an opportunity on television. She is also exiting WWE as the pro wrestling world has plenty of options available for her.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
