WWE has a lot of plans for Day 1, but the COVID-19 pandemic is also far from over. That could result in a match planned for their January 1st pay-per-view to hit the cutting room floor.

Matt Riddle was not on RAW this week. It is unclear what his situation is, but it was previously reported that several WWE talent and staff tested positive for COVID-19 after the last Holiday Tour loop. There is a fear that he might miss Day 1.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that Riddle’s absence could cancel a planned match against the Mysterios.

The original idea was Riddle & Randy Orton defending the tag titles against the winners of a tournament that came down to Rey & Dominick Mysterio vs The Street Profits. The match was to be on 12/13 Raw but Montez Ford has been unavailable for the past two weeks and the match was announced for 12/27 in Detroit, but at press time the match was no longer being advertised. At press time we were told it is unclear if that match will happen or not.

We can only hope that Riddle is okay, but he hasn’t publicly spoken about his absence. He has a ton of fans eager to rally behind him, so we can only imagine that RKBro will continue into 2022 with a lot of momentum.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
