Becky Lynch took time off from WWE for maternity leave after telling Asuka that the Money In The Bank winner was actually the new Raw Women’s champion. Lynch then rode off into the sunset to experience her first time as a mother. That wasn’t the original plan, though.

Becky told Entrevista about the original plan. She said the first idea she had was for a tournament to determine a #1 contender. Before the finals, Becky was going to let the competitors know that it was for the title. Instead, the timing worked out that Money In The Bank was the way to go.

“So, Colby and I, when I found out I was pregnant, we were trying to figure out what would be the best way. I thought maybe a tournament for the title or a tournament for the number one contendership.

Then at the end, when it comes down to the last two people, just before they have their match, announce that, ‘Hey, well actually, by the way, it’s not for the number one contendership. It’s for the title.’ And you have that be a very real moment.

But at the time, it was just before Money In The Bank, so I think collaborating with Paul Heyman, he was like, ‘Well, we are just going to have Money In The Bank be for the title, but they won’t know it until the Monday after when you announce it.’ So, that’s what we did.”

Becky returned at SummerSlam and squashed Bianca Belair for the SmackDown title, creating a firestorm among WWE fans who thought Belair was robbed. Since then, Becky was drafted to Raw. After a contentious title exchange ceremony that lead to major heat between Lynch and Charlotte Flair, she’s set to defend against new #1 contender Liv Morgan.
