Owen Hart was regarded as one of the best pro wrestlers to ever compete inside WWE ring. Unfortunately, his life ended far too early as he tragically lost his life at Over The Edge in 1999 as he fell to his death. It seems Tony Khan has surprises in store for the Owen Hart Cup.

Owen Hart had doubts about the deadly Blue Blazer stunt that ultimately took his life as well. His passing led to lot of controversy that carries on even today. Owen Hart’s wife Martha sued WWE for wrongful death, and Vince McMahon sued her back.

As reported earlier, AEW will be partnering up with the Owen Hart Foundation to honor the legacy of the legendary wrestler. The working relationship will include the annual Owen Hart Cup Tournament in AEW. The winner of the tournament will receive Cup known as “The Owen.”

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, AEW President Tony Khan talked about the company’s future plans. Khan said that the format of the Owen Hart Cup will surprise fans.

“People are going to be surprised what I have to say about ‘The Owen’ and I might even say some of it in my promo after the pay-per-view. This is because I think a lot of people will be watching that to get the info. I’m quite excited for it and I do not think everybody will expect exactly what I have to say about the format. Maybe some people will expect it but I think it will be good and well recieved. And I am really excited for it and is long overdue for the wrestling fans to have this outlet to pay tribute to Owen Hart, who is one of the great wrestlers of all time.”

It was said that the company worked on the Owen Hart deal for well over year. AEW’s partnership with the Owen Hart Foundation is likely to benefit the company in the long run and even Jim Cornette defended the partnership previously.
