AEW’s inception came about at Double Or Nothing 2019 and since then, the company has done all it could to provide an alternate product to what fans see in WWE. For the most part, they have succeeded, but there is still a lot of room for improvement.
AEW has all the momentum in the world right now thanks to the debuts of CM Punk, Bryan Danielson and Adam Cole to their roster, ensuring that the roster is one of the most stacked in all of pro wrestling.
Tony Khan recently stated that he can’t wait to see AEW Rampage defeat Friday Night Smackdown in ratings next week as Smackdown will be airing on FS1.
Robbie Fox of the My Mom’s Basement podcast took to Twitter and stated that it is odd that fans are upset with Khan’s comments, as many believe that the Attitude Era was the peak of wrestling, when WWE had direct competition.
Tony Khan saw the tweet and decided to reply to it as he stated that he wants to see a competitive spirit between WWE and AEW similar to how it was during the Monday Night Wars.
“Twitter’s the child of the boards/chat rooms that thrived during the 90s wrestling war; part of my business plan is recreating that competitive spirit while avoiding WCW’s errors, which is why I pace/don’t blow thru matches. @AEW has many years’ worth of big matches up my sleeve.”
It remains to be seen whether Tony Khan’s words will come back to bite him next week or not as he certainly made a bold claim.
