Roman Reigns was picked #1 in the 2021 WWE Draft as Universal Champion. He already has a match scheduled for Crown Jewel on October 21st against Brock Lesnar. That event will start at 1:00 PM EST, and we will have full coverage here at Ringside News.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer broke down the current depth charts on WWE’s main roster shows. It is apparent that SmackDown has a bit of an issue with star power on the top of the card. Other than Drew McIntyre, Roman Reigns might have trouble finding a main event name to wrestle unless WWE elevates someone from mid-card status.
“The headliners side [on SmackDown] is exceedingly weak. If Roman Reigns gets through Drew McIntyre, your next level of guys is Sheamus and Happy Corbin as heels and Nakamura and Jeff Hardy [as babyfaces].”
We’ll have to see where things fall after Roman Reigns faces Brock Lesnar at WWE Crown Jewel on October 21st. Lesnar is a free agent, but he very well could travel home from Saudi Arabia as WWE Universal Champion. That could change the dynamic of the blue brand in a huge way after the 2021 WWE Draft.
