WWE and AEW are in the same industry, and despite WWE trying to avoid acknowledging them as competition, the ratings speak differently. This resulted in Roman Reigns starting SmackDown in MSG by proclaiming that WWE runs New York City. The fact that AEW’s Arthur Ashe Stadium is coming up was not lost on anyone.

During Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez mentioned a conversation he had with someone in WWE. They were very happy about what the Tribal Chief said, but they were less than thrilled about Christian Cage’s shot on AEW Dynamite a few days later.

“Someone in WWE texted me and they were all excited when Roman Reigns made that comment last week, and the comment that the Usos made and they were so happy that they had taken the shot, and then on Dynamite, Christian took a shot at WWE and they were angry. I was like, bro, come on it goes both ways, that’s just what’s gonna happen.”

It seems that both AEW and WWE will continue with their “snide little comments” for the foreseeable future. We’ll have have to see what’s next for this situation, because the two companies could start lobbing some pretty big shade bombs at each other eventually.
