Tonight’s SmackDown is the last show before the SummerSlam PPV and tonight is set to feature the final showdown between John Cena and Universal Champion Roman Reigns before their much-anticipated title match at SummerSlam.

SmackDown will also feature the fallout of Baron Corbin stealing Big E’s Money in the Bank briefcase and King Nakamura capturing the Intercontinental Championship.

SmackDown

SmackDown begins live with Edge making his way out to the ring. A video package is shown going over various events in the career of Edge and Seth Rollins with the words of Rollins’ promo from last week over the video. Edge sits in a chair in the ring with a spotlight on him. Edge calls out Rollins for his promo last week. Edge says that what Rollins said sat with him and that the actions of 2014 still seem like yesterday to him. Edge says that last week Rollins threatened his way of life and his wife and kids. Edge says he knows what the curb stomp can do to him with his neck. Edge says he knows if Rollins hits that stomp it likely ends his career and changes his life forever. Edge knows that everything Rollins is saying is usually mind games, but Edge knows that Rollins actually means everything that he says. Edge says Rollins has pushed him into a dark place, a place that he doesn’t like to go to because it is hard for him to go back. Edge says that at SummerSlam, he doesn’t just have to beat Rollins, he has to break him. Edge says at SummerSlam he is going to burn Rollins down.

Rey and Dominik Mysterio are talking backstage. Rey tells Dominik to take things one match at a time. Rey asks Dominik to stay alert and watch his back in his upcoming match.

Rey Mysterio vs Jey Uso

Our opening match begins with a lock up. Jey hits a shoulder tackle and Rey rolls out of the ring. Back in the ring Rey hits a huricanrana and hits Jey with a series of punches in the corner. Jey pulls Rey from the corner and hits Rey with a hard right hand to knock Rey to the ground. Jey stomps on Rey’s face and puts him in a chin lock on the mat. Rey powers to his feet and breaks the hold. Rey hits a back elbow and goes up top but is caught on the shoulders by Jey. Rey is able to grab the ropes to send Jey over the top. Rey hits a moonsault off the middle rope to take out both Usos on the outside.

The match returns live with Jey having Rey in a chin lock. Rey gets to his feet and hits an enziguri to break free. Rey ducks a lariat but is hit with a Samoan drop and Jey covers for two. Jey sets Rey on the top rope and Rey hits a headbutt but Jey answers with a right hand to knock Rey to the apron. Jey picks Rey back up but Rey hits a huricanrana, Rey covers and gets a two count. Rey springs off the middle rope for a cross body and get a two count from the cover. Jey shoves Rey into the corner and hits a pop up neckbreaker and covers for a two count. Rey goes to the top rope and hits a senton, Jey lifts up Rey but Rey counters with a tornado DDT and covers for two. Rey puts Jey in position for the 619 but Jey counters. Rey rolls Jey up and Dominik puts his feet up to help Rey but the referee notice and ejects Dominik. off the distraction on the outside Jey attacks Rey from behind. Back in the ring Jey hits a splash from the top rope and covers for three.

Winner: Jey Uso

A recap of last week’s SmackDown shows Baron Corbin stealing the Money in the Bank briefcase from Big E. Corbin walks out holding the briefcase, clutching it close to him as he walks down the ramp as a match with Kevin Owens is announced.

Baron Corbin vs Kevin Owens

Our second match of the night begins with Owens hitting chops and punches to Corbin. Owens hits a senton and backs Corbin into the corner with punches. Corbin hits a lariat and covers for two. Corbin slams Owens’ face into the corner. Owens hits a super kick and Corbin falls outside. Corbin hits a swanton from the apron to the outside. Back in the ring, Owens goes up top but Corbin rolls outside the ring. Corbin goes for a chokeslam but counters and tries a stunner but Corbin rolls outside. Big E walks out to the ring angrily and Corbin runs to the briefcase but Big E meets him and attacks Corbin to cause the DQ.

Winner by Disqualification: Baron Corbin

After the bell, Corbin throws Big E into the corner and manages to run away with the briefcase.

SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair is interviewed backstage. A video is shown recapping Belair and Sasha Banks’ contract signing last week for their SummerSlam title match. Belair says that just hearing Sasha’s name angers her and says she hopes Banks is watching tonight so she sees what Belair will do to “her friends” Carmella and Zelina Vega. Belair says she’s done playing nice.

Shotzi & Nox make their way out to the ring on their tank as a championship contender’s match is announced.

Shotzi & Nox vs Natalya & Tamina

The match begins with Tamina attack Nox on the apron and then Shotzi in the ring. Tamina slams Shotzi to the mat. Natalya is tagged in and Natalya hits a drop kick to the back of the head. Natalya puts Shotzi in a chin lock on the mat. Natalya hits a snap suplex and covers for two. Shotzi dodges a lariat and hits a neck breaker. Nox hits a cross body to Tamina on the outside. Natalya tries a sharp shooter but Shotzi gets a roll up for three.

Winners: Shotzi & Nox

SmackDown returns with Seth Rollins coming out to the ring. Rollins grabs a mic and says that he has to admit he likes Edge’s style. Rollins says we all listened to what Edge said earlier. Rollins says Edge spouted off every excuse he had for why Edge is going to lose to Rollins at SummerSlam. Rollins says their is no shame in Edge’s shortcomings, the crowd continues to chant for Edge which Rollins to yell in anger. Rollins says there is no shame in being broken by this business and that there is no shame in Edge being a father. Rollins says there is no shame in Edge not being able to find the darkness that once guided him. Rollins says that without that darkness, Edge is not on his level. Rollins is interrupted by flashing red lights and fire graphics displayed. Edge appears on the titantron in a red light and taunts Rollins while The Brood’s theme is played before a black liquid rains down onto Rollins in the ring as the lights go back to normal. Rollins sits in the ring burning with rage.

Montez Ford vs Otis

The match begins with Ford hitting a big slap. Otis hits a right hand to the mid section. Ford hits two lariats but Otis stays on his feet. Otis hits a spinning back elbow to knock Ford to the ground. Otis hits a chop on the apron to send Ford to the floor. Ford gets hit again in the mid section. Ford hits a superkick and enziguri. Ford hits a flying cross body and Otis powers out at two. Otis hits a double axe handle to the mid section. Otis goes to the middle rope and Otis hits a splash and covers for three.

Winner: Otis

Rick Boogs appears on stage to play King Nakamura out to the ring as commentary announces that Boogs and Nakamura team up in Boogs’ first SmackDown match.

King Nakamura & Rick Boogs vs Apollo Crews & Commander Azeez

The match begins with Boogs and Crews in the ring. Boogs hits a take down and hits Crews with a gut wrench slam. Crews hits a drop kick and covers for two. Crews holds Boogs in a chin lock. Boogs gets out and tags in nakamura and Commander Azeez is also tagged in. Nakamura hits a kick to Azeez;s head. Nakamura dodges a charging Azeez. Nakamura hits a knee strike from the top rope and covers for two. Nakamura goes for the Kinshasa but Azeez catches and hits a side slam and Crews is tagged in. Nakamura tags in Boogs and applies the abdominal stretch and hits a body slam and covers for three.

Winners: King Nakamura & Rick Boogs

SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair makes her way out to the ring and it is announced that she will compete in back to back matches against Zelina Vega and Carmella.

Bianca Belair vs Zelina Vega

The bell rings and Belair throws Vega across the ring. Belair hits a shoulder tackle and slams Vega’s face into the corner. Vega ducks an elbow and throws Belair into the corner. Carmella causes a distraction and Vega hits a code red and gets a two count. Vega goes to the top rope but Belair catches her in the huricanrana attempt and plants Vega with a power bomb and picks her back up and throws her in the corner. Belair hits the Kiss of Death and covers for three.

Winner; Bianca Belair

Bianca Belair vs Carmella

Immediately after the first match Carmella runs in to attack Belair and start the next match.

Our second Belair match continues with Carmella hitting strikes in the corner. Carmella slams Belair to the mat by her braid. Carmella hits a series of back elbows in the corner. Carmella covers for two and puts Belair in a chin lock. Belair powers out and reverses into a delayed vertical suplex. Belair blocks a super kick and hits a moonsault and covers for two. Carmella hits an elbow and goes to the top rope and uses the ropes for a choke hold with her legs. Belair hits a Kiss of Death and covers for three.

Winner: Bianca Belair

SmackDown returns with Universal Champion Roman reigns making his way out with Paul Heyman by his side. Reigns stands in the ring holding up the title when John Cena comes out to interrupt Reigns. Cena runs to the ring and grabs a mic. After a few moments of no words between the two Reigns says that a lot of people say a lot of stupid things to him, and that’s exactly what Cena did last week. Reigns says the fans reacted to Cena’s words because of his energy and his delivery. Reigns asks when the last time he lost was. Heyman says that nobody has ever beaten this Roman Reigns. Cena says he won’t let this go on. Cena says that all eyes on them for their SummerSlam main event. Cena says that Reigns has no idea what he’s in for. Cena says that he is here to take the championship so that Reigns has to stay as a failure. Cena says Reigns is protected in a bubble and needs to be brought back to earth. Cena says he not here to promote movies, but to demote Reigns. Cena says this is a match Reigns never wanted. Cena says he has told people the same thing for 20 years. Cena brings up how if Reigns isn’t perfect, it’s 1, 2, 3 and that tomorrow Cena will break the championship record thanks to Roman Reigns. Cena says that tomorrow the impossible becomes the possible and throws the mic out. Reigns says that he’s trying to understand Cena, and that Cena should’ve smartened himself up before coming back. Reigns asks what makes Cena different from everyone else he has beaten. Reigns says it’s Vegas, let’s raise the stakes. reigns says he’s either leaving the arena as Universal Champion, or he’s leaving WWE. The two shake hands in agreement and Reigns picks up Cena but Cena counters in a roll up to imply he pinned Reigns 1,2,3.
