WWE NXT Referee Aja Smith Could Be Getting Main Roster Call-Up

WWE is looking to freshen up the rosters and that could involve calling up a referee. Aja Smith is backstage at SmackDown this week and the NXT referee could be ready for the main roster.

According to Fightful Select, Aja Smith is backstage at SmackDown. It was not noted exactly what the context of her visit is at this time.

WWE has reportedly been trying out a few people from the Performance Center at recent television tapings. Aja Smith could very well be on her way to becoming a main roster official.

She signed with WWE in 2020 and became the first full-time African American female referee in WWE history. She has worked very hard and that has paid off by getting her in some big time matches on the black and gold brand. Now she could be getting even closer to her time on the main roster.

Aja Smith was also praised by a lot of fans and others for stopping a recent match on NXT television where Xia Li accidentally knocked out Mercedes Martinez with spin kick. Bryan Alvarez made a comment on Wrestling Observer Radio that she showed more awareness in the moment than some UFC referees.
