WWE is building toward Hell in a Cell on June 20th, but they haven’t booked the Universal Champion in a match yet. The company started that build this week on SmackDown, but it was disguised the Tribal Chief breaking up the SmackDown Tag Team Title match.

According to a new report from Dave Meltzer, Roman Reigns will defend the Universal Title against Rey Mysterio at Hell in a Cell. That explains why Reigns attacked Rey and Dominik Mysterio to close out SmackDown this week.

Dave Meltzer has confirmed that Reigns defending against Mysterio is the direction for WWE’s next pay-per-view event, which takes place on June 20. This follows an angle on Friday’s SmackDown where Reigns attacked Mysterio and his son, Dominik, preventing The Usos from losing a second match against the father and son team.

We will have to see how this turns out. It was not confirmed that this match will actually take place within the Hell in a Cell structure. It could very well be a regular match without that dangerous stipulation attached.

Roman Reigns is biding time until SummerSlam when John Cena is reportedly slated to come in and challenge the Tribal Chief. Reigns’ story has been incredibly strong since his SummerSlam 2020 return and that isn’t stopping.
