Update: AEW has announced replacement for Janela in the #1 contender tournament. Kenny Omega will now be wrestling Sonny Kiss instead as Kiss replaces Janela.

Original: Joey Janela was around some wrestlers who later tested positive for COVID-19. Several wrestlers who worked The Collective have revealed positive COVID-19 test results. As a precautionary measure, AEW is pulling Joey Janela from their programming.

The company announced that the Bad Boy will not be appearing until he can be cleared to return consistent with their protocol. It was not noted that Janela is positive for COVID-19, but he was exposed to the virus.

AEW and Joey Janela learned today that he had exposure to a known COVID-19 positive person at an independent show. For that reason we are pulling him until such time as he is cleared to return consistent with our protocols.

AEW’s wording in their announcement was a bit vague concerning his return timeframe. Janela has made it clear that GCW will continue running shows while using their own COVID-19 safety protocol. We will have to see when Janela appears for AEW again.
