FTR were known as The Revival in WWE, but they almost received a different name. There was a time when they were called the Mechanics, but that name grounded in pro wrestling’s fundamentals was nixed.

While speaking to Bodyslam.net, Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler explained why WWE did away with the Mechanics name. It all came down to perception and how WWE viewed the idea of traditional professional wrestling.

I think Billy Gunn might’ve thrown it out there at one point saying something like “you guys are such good in-ring mechanics. But I think the issue with the name was getting it copyrighted ” – Cash

I don’t think they liked the connotation that came along with Mechanics because saying that basically means you’re a good hand. – Dax

FTR are doing much better in AEW as their World Tag Team Champions. They can’t go go as The Mechanics though, because although WWE rejected that name the company still locked it down with a copyright claim.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
