AEW signed Will Hobbs to a contract and the news broke on Wednesday afternoon. That night Hobbs made his return to AEW Dynamite and he was far from an enhancement wrestler.

Hobbs lost his first match on Dynamite to Darby Allin a few weeks ago. Ironically, Allin is the third member on Team Moxley next week along with Hobbs.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about an old friend of his who is no longer with us who was a huge fan of Hobbs on the indies. Will Hobbs didn’t show up in AEW with a plan to become a big name, but Tony Khan liked him and it appears that a big push is on the way.

“Man, my old friend Dave Corner who died a few years ago he would have freaked out because him and Will Hobbs were real close friends and he was always trying to push something for Will Hobbs. Will was always physically impressive. He just never really got looks or anything like that.”

“He went to AEW to do jobs and Tony Khan liked him and they did that big battle royal spot to get him over [at All Out] and now he’s gonna be a guy that they’re pushing. He’s in there with with good [people].”

Will Hobbs earned a lot of attention for himself last night on Dynamite even if he hadn’t already. He ran in with a chair to make a save which was followed by Jon Moxley talking him up in a big way. That is certainly a good way to start his AEW journey.
