RVD has been a marijuana advocate for decades. He was one of the first mainstream wrestling stars to proudly proclaim this during promos. He also wore 4:20 on his singlets with pride. This made him somewhat of an authority on the subject.

While speaking to Wrestling Inc, RVD discussed other wrestlers who have asked him about marijuana smoking. He is happy to share this information and squash any stigma that they might have previously held toward it.

In the end, RVD is very happy that modern day wrestlers seem to have gravitated toward marijuana and strayed away from swallowing handfuls of pills.

“Yes, wrestlers ask me for advice often, and I’m glad that the current generation is smoking marijuana and not eating handfuls of pills and alcohol like my generation did and they’re going to live long because of that. The athletic style that requires you to really take care of yourself, you can’t be out at the bar drinking till 5:00 in the morning like the wrestlers of the ’70s or ’80s. So basically because of Rob Van Dam, the wrestlers are going to live longer.”

RVD is still fighting the stigma that people place on marijuana to this day. He highlights the medicinal benefits while educating those who want to learn. It is certainly a safer alternative than turning to pharmaceuticals.

There are still instances of substance abuse in the pro wrestling industry, but it’s not as common as it once was. The Undertaker had fascinating view on the matter as he spoke with Steve Austin and we invite you to read all about it here.
