Sami Zayn didn’t show up to work so WWE took the Intercontinental Championship off of him. A tournament was arranged and a new champion was crowned this week on Friday Night SmackDown.

The tournament came down to AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan. This tournament saw a lot of controversy when Jeff Hardy’s DUI set-up got in the and removed Elias from the competition.
Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles had a barnburner of a match. They took up a ton of time with an evenly matched contest. In the end, Styles nailed a Phenomenal Forearm for the win.
The new IC Champion is AJ Styles. This marks the first time in his career with the WWE IC Title.
