Backstage Note On Creative Process Behind AEW Promos

AEW is letting their stars have a lot of creative control. They are given some direction, but it’s their responsibility to get over.

Britt Baker’s promos have received a fair amount of attention in recent weeks on AEW Dynamite. It was discussed during Wrestling Observer Radio and Dave Meltzer revealed who’s behind some of those big digs.

“Tony Khan came up with the basic bullet points for the promo and Cody gave her an outline, but she did all the words. Nobody scripted her. She cut the promo on her own. The big line about the Whataburger was Cody. The stuff about extracting the tooth and I’m not getting paid or whatever, the idea of that was Tony Khan, but it was her words.”

It was previously stated that Kenny Omega was the man behind Baker calling Tony Schiavone “sh*tty barista.”

People wondered who came up with the Whataburger line. That dig at the Texas crowd got a huge amount of heat. Texans love Whataburger. It was apparently Cody, but Britt Baker was responsible for putting it all together and delivering it.
