AEW and NJPW do not have a working agreement although it might greatly benefit both companies in the long run. New Japan Pro Wrestling is returning to Madison Square Garden. Wrestle Dynasty and will take place in New York City on Saturday, August 22nd, but they won’t have AEW’s help.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed that Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho won’t be permitted to perform at NJPW’s upcoming MSG event.

“There will be no Jericho and there will be no Moxley on that show. Their contracts do not allow them to do New Japan in the United States unless there’s a formal relationship between the two sides before this. Even this, I don’t see — I can tell you right now it’s 100% no Jericho, no Moxley.”

Madison Square Garden is a very expensive venue to run, but it is also very important and a huge status symbol for any company. AEW wants to eventually have show in MSG, but they’re not going to allow two of their biggest starts to help NJPW sell out The World’s Most Famous Arena.
