WWE is all about being able to tout that they are breaking a new barrier. This time it got them some attention on CNN.

Aja Perera signed with WWE where she will be referee. She will actually be the first African American female on WWE’s referee roster.

This signing got CNN’s attention and they published an article about the recent hire. When Aja woke up and saw this article she posted a very candid response.

A year ago my life was falling apart, I was at my lowest, and I was about to give up on myself. This morning I wake up to discover I’m featured on CNN! Continue to fight! Bet on yourself because life can change in a instant! I’m so blessed! Who’s excited for this journey?!

We’re very happy for Aja Perera. She worked very hard and will likely be appearing on WWE NXT before we know it. When she does debut another historic moment will take place as WWE’s first female African American referee officiates her first match.
