Why Corey Graves Misses A Three Person WWE Announce Team

Corey Graves and Michael Cole are the voices of Friday Night SmackDown. WWE’s decision to cut a member out of the usual three person announce team was not something that Corey Graves necessarily preferred.

While discussing the current commentary situation with Renee Young on After The Bell, Corey Graves explained why he misses her. He needs someone to laugh at his jokes and Michael Cole is too tough of an audience.

“I have a hard time now without having [Renee Young] or somebody there, a third person at the table because Cole’s so hard to break. Cole can keep a straight face through anything and I always used to gauge is something kinda landed cause I could look at [Young] or I could even look at Byron or Tom Phillips and you know he’d have the giggles or whatever.”

Renee Young said that Graves has cracked Michael Cole up in the past. She remembered one line Corey Graves made about Kairi Sane having pirate scurvy that caused Cole to hit the cough button and collect himself.

Friday Night SmackDown’s adjustment to the two man announce team was a transition for fans and the commentary team. Corey Graves might miss having someone to validate his jokes, but they’re still landing just as often.
