Kevin Owens and Drew McIntyre was an unadvertised surprise on SmackDown Live. Those two former NXT Champions had never locked horns inside a WWE ring before and it was a long time coming.

They put on a great match that we would love to see again, but if the ending felt a tad rushed there might be a reason for that. Brad Shepard reports that they actually went over their allotted time by a little bit. However, Vince McMahon wanted Drew to get a little bit more heat on him before the ending so he would look better.

According to a source in #WWE, the Kevin Owens vs. Drew McIntyre match went a little over the time allotted but Drew had to go out looking strong in defeat, per one of today’s rewrites. #SDLive

Drew McIntyre and Kevin Owens were very entertaining and could have gone much longer. We’ll just have to wait and see if they end up colliding again down the road. It’s interesting that their first encounter is the result of a last minute Vince McMahon re-write.
