Jon Moxley left a lot of great friends behind in WWE including Roman Reigns. This is one of the reasons why he wants the company to get better so his wife Renee Young and his friends will have a better product that they can be proud of.

Moxley is now in AEW and he said that in about ten minutes he was able to do more promos than in his last six months with WWE. He’s not wrong either as his creative juices can now flow without a multitude of micromanaging writers and producers feeling that they need to tweak things.

While speaking to the Wade Keller Pro Wrestling Podcast, Moxley opened up about Roman Reigns who is one of the people he obviously misses the most in WWE.

“I think they definitely, probably hoped that it stopped, when he was in The Shield, everybody loved him, he was the hottest thing, but was booked like a monster. But as soon as [the fans] realized [he was the guy], then they all decided before hand they were going to turn on him because they don’t like that, for whatever reason. I think Cena did that first and Roman walked into it. They were like, ‘Oh, it’s the Cena thing, again.'”

Most fans of WWE remember Roman Reigns spouting the lines “suffering succotash.” It is something that most didn’t let him live down for the longest time and it is still brought up. As it turns out they remember that line backstage too because Reigns didn’t want to say it.

“Vince had him say ‘suffering succotash,’ ya know what I mean? I remember that day. You think he wanted to say that? No. He went in there and came out and was like, ‘He wants me to say suffering succotash,’ and I remember kind of laughing like, ‘Dude, you can’t say that.’ He’s like, ‘He wants me to say it. Is there a cool way to say it?’ I’m like, ‘What if you looked at the camera and said, well, that wasn’t easy to say,’ or something, I don’t know.”

“His personality is so great, he’s such a great dude. Everybody loves him, he’s the most lovable guy in the world. He’s the guy everybody gravitates to in the locker room. Just his natural charisma, but they don’t let him be himself. They try to make him—years ago, he was trying to be what they wanted.”

Moxley and Roman Reigns are very close friends and despite the fact that Reigns was chosen over Dean Ambrose on many occasions they never let it get between their friendship.

“I’m really glad he is legit one of my best friends because we would ride in the car—even when we were in competition, so to speak, because I love him so much that I couldn’t resent him or anything.”

“If he was a guy that I wasn’t friends with or I hated, I would probably resent the hell out of him. Because there were many times when I felt like I had a stronger connection with the audience than him, but it didn’t matter. He’s my best friend, so it would have never come between us.”

Jon Moxley has left WWE behind, but it’s hard for him not to speak about the company and his experiences there. He spent nearly a decade employed by Vince McMahon and it shows.

Now he is happy to be out, but we can only hope the best for the pro wrestling business as another wrestling war could certainly shake things up.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
