Big E made his big return on SmackDown Live this week, but he did not work a match. He did pull off some comedy antics in the ring, but couldn’t come to ringside to be with Kofi Kingston as he battled Sami Zayn.

Instead, Big E was “attacked” backstage by Kevin Owens. We have a very good idea that KO was the attacker because E said “Owens” as they shot to him clutching his knee in the back.

At this time Big E is not cleared for an in-ring return. He won’t be working any matches, but hopefully, he will still be able to appear on television.

The New Day works much better as a trio during promos and WWE realizes this. It isn’t the first time a New Day member has been able to continue appearing on WWE television through an injury. It seems like they have traded out that role when needed.

Hopefully, Big E will be able to make a return to action sooner than later. It would also be great if that backstage attack doesn’t write him off of WWE television for even longer.

In the meantime, at least Big E has doppelganger backstage that he can call whenever he needs a stand-in.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
