CM Punk made a surprise return at an indie wrestling show in front of 350 people on Friday night. A masked man ran in the ring and delivered a GTS before exiting very quickly. This man was confirmed to be CM Punk.

Dave Meltzer spoke about CM Punk’s surprise performance during Wrestling Observer Radio. He then said that if Punk wants to wrestle then he has a great opportunity. Because Tony Khan wanted CM Punk to be his guy to start a pro wrestling company even before The Young Bucks came on board.

“I mean if he wants to wrestle he was Tony Khan’s first pick before Jericho, before The Young Bucks, before anyone. If he wants to wrestle then he can wrestle and make really good money if that’s what he wants.”

Meltzer went on to say that when people ask him about CM Punk his only reply is that CM Punk is going to do what he wants to do. However, there is a very strong chance that he’s not going back to WWE. “He’s not Bret,” so there might not even be a chance that he’ll come back in a decade for a Hall Of Fame induction.

Shane McMahon calling himself “The Best In The World” invokes plenty of CM Punk chants from pretty much any live crowd. The company might not like that, but it is going to keep happening. If CM Punk was a huge star in AEW, they might like it even less, but he is going to keep doing what he wants to do.
