Why WWE Needed Becky Lynch To Lose The SmackDown Women’s Title

Becky Lynch lost at WWE TLC, but she wasn’t pinned. Instead, Asuka climbed a ladder and retrieved The Man’s title. Lynch wants her title back, but it’s not likely to happen anytime soon even with Royal Rumble rematch.

Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Live that in order to pull off WWE’s future plans that Becky Lynch needed to lose her precious title.

“Asuka being slid to make it a three-way and winning the title, I mean there’s a reason they did that. They’re going with Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch and Charlotte in some form or fashion between now and Mania. So in order to do that they wanted the belt off of both of them so Asuka ended up with the belt.”

“Like I don’t expect Becky Lynch to win that title at the Royal Rumble. I don’t know what they finish is gonna be, I don’t know if Ronda will interfere I mean she’s gonna be there so she could.”

We previously reported that Lynch would need to lose her title in order to pull off a Ronda Rousey match at Mania. We’ll have to wait and see if Charlotte Flair ends up in that picture as well.
