Former WWE Superstar Batista has been moving up the ranks in Hollywood. His work primarily in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise for Marvel has led to him getting further acting gigs, and he continues to give Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and John Cena a run for their money.

It is now being reported by Deadline that Batista has signed on to star in an upcoming movie based on the 1965 science fiction novel “Dune” by American author Frank Herbert.

While it appears Batista’s role in the movie is being kept under wrap, he will be joining Timothée Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson as stars for the movie. Batista starred in “Blade Runner 2049” which was directed by Denis Villeneueve, and that same director leads the way on the new “Dune” movie.

The movie is likened to a cross between Game of Thrones and Star Wars. Given the success of the movie, the franchise is expected to grow. Herbert wrote five sequels to “Dune,” and this would likely mean Batista finds himself as a core member of these films.

What is also interesting is that this isn’t the first time “Dune” has been translated from a book to a movie. There was a 1984 adaptation of the original novel by David Lynch. There was also a mini-series titled “Frank Herbert’s Dune” back in 2000, which also saw a 2003 sequel titled “Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune.” These may serve as inspiration for Villeneueve and Batista in their respective roles for the franchise.
