UFC decided to strip Colby Covington of Interim UFC Welterweight Championship in July and 2 months later Woodley defeated Till at UFC 228 for the UFC Welterweight Championship.
Covington took shot at Tyron Woodley and Darren Till following their UFC 228 title fight and Dana White has said that Colby will fight the winner meaning he has a future match-up with Woodley on the way.
Filthy Tom Lawlor was on Wrestling Observer Radio when he discussed an amazing missed opportunity on UFC’s part to book a much more compelling fight down the line by taking Covington’s title. After all, Colby was the first UFC Champion to ever visit the White House.

“I believe Dana said the winner of this fight was going to fight Covington anyway so what’s the harm in having the Interim Champion face the Champion? For promotional photos, it looks better, for the entire thing it looks better. Then 1 guys would have 2 belts by the end of the night. What the f*ck?!”

Only time will tell what goes down in the UFC from this point on. After all, everything can change at the drop of a hat or any other reason for that matter. But it looks like UFC could have passed on a pretty interesting idea down the line.
