Ken Shamrock and Steve Blackman battled in a Lion’s Den match at SummerSlam 1999. With those two having MMA backgrounds, it set up a match. Shamrock’s dojo was called the Lion’s Den so they just used that name for the contest back in the day.

Now it looks like with both Bobby Lashley and Brock Lesnar in WWE at the same time and Bob wanting a shot at Brock, WWE could have another one of these worked shoot fights on their hands. Dave Meltzer opened up about the possibility of an Octagon match taking place in WWE or a legit MMA fight on Wrestling Observer Radio.

“You know I can actually see them doing that as far as that idea I could see that. As far as a fight between the two of them, there’s no way of knowing. Brock fought much tougher guys than Lashley did. Brock and Lashley were pretty much opposites.”

“Lashley fought a lot of guys that weren’t particularly great. In fact he never fought anyone who was great at all. Brock only fought guys who were good or great. Brock did very well against them. As far as their attributes and everything. Lashley had more of a tough time conditioning than Brock did.”

There is a big difference between Bobby Lashley and Brock Lesnar. So just because they both come from an MMA background doesn’t mean they would be the best fit in an MMA setting. But a worked Octagon match isn’t out of the cards because you never know in WWE.
