Mike Johnson from PW Insider reports that the promotion AAA (Lucha Libre) is making a bid to run a show at the MSG around September.

The report speculates that the WWE technically has a first refusal right for the same date due to their previous agreement with the venue, but that the higher-ups at Madison Square Garden aren’t too pleased with the amount of events the WWE has been running at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn.

The tipping point appears to revolve around the upcoming WrestleMania 35 behind held at MetLife. WWE running all of their Mania week events at Barclay’s, leaving the Garden out in the cold. (If you recall, MSG hosted WrestleMania’s 1, 10, and 20.) No other promotion has run an event at the legendary arena (home of the Knicks) since they and the McMahon’s began their relationship.

WWE is still planning their Raw Live event show there in July where the Undertaker will make his return, and Ronda Rousey will make her debut.
