As seen on Monday’s episode of RAW, Samoa Joe cut a promo and mentioned that John Cena would be the first guy he eliminates in the 30-man Royal Rumble Battle Royal match. Many speculated that WWE could be building a feud for the two with a blowoff match at WrestleMania this year, however that’s not the case.

Dave Meltzer discussed this promo on today’s installment of Wrestling Observer Radio and mentioned that WWE has no plans to have Cena face Samoa Joe at WrestleMania 34 this year. Meltzer indicated that WWE teased the match because Joe vs. Cena vs. Roman Reigns is being advertised for the WWE Live Events starting in February. Basically, they will be the selling point for tickets after The Rumble.

Regarding Cena’s opponent for WrestleMania, it’s being rumored that he could face either AJ Styles for the WWE Championship or challenge The Undertaker. It remains to be seen who he actually ends up facing or if WWE changes either one of those plans. We will keep you updated.
