Zelina Vega’s road to her first major singles title win in WWE wasn’t just long—it was borderline chaotic, at least according to her fanbase.
In a new interview with SHAK Wrestling on CBS Sports, the reigning WWE Women’s United States Champion opened up about her emotional title win and how her fans were literally ready to storm the gates if WWE didn’t give her the spotlight she deserved.
“I always felt so close to the world title so many times that I felt like something was coming—like something had to,” Zelina said, reflecting on years of near-misses. “Because my fans were getting violent. Like, they were getting so ready to… they were like, ‘We will go to headquarters and we will see who we need to speak to because this is getting ridiculous!’”
Yes, she meant WWE Headquarters.
“And I would see them tweet that randomly. I’m like, ‘Don’t—don’t go there. Don’t get arrested.’”
Vega, who captured the newly minted Women’s U.S. Championship on the April 25 episode of SmackDown, admitted she was overwhelmed by the outpouring of passion from fans who supported her even during her lowest points.
“I love how passionate my fans are. They are the kind of ‘have your back’ people—like I used to have in Queens,” she said. “It’s that kind of ‘have your back.’ So, I love them so, so passionately.”
Before her big win, Vega had gone a full year without a televised victory, but her fans never wavered. That loyalty, she said, made her championship celebration feel like a group achievement.
“I’m very thankful because again, before this, I hadn’t won a match in like a year—let alone bring gold home,” she admitted. “So I didn’t really give them a reason, as a character, to fight for me as passionately as they did. But that unconditional support was just incredible.”
“The night I won, it felt like we all celebrated together.”
Her title win also happened to occur on the same night that her husband, Aleister Black (Malakai), made his surprise WWE return—just ten minutes apart. But Vega dismissed any talk that her win was tied to his comeback, insisting the timing was pure coincidence and the moment belonged to everyone who stuck by her through the grind.
“I felt like everything was right in the world.”
Zelina Vega isn’t just grateful for her fans—she’s riding with them. After clawing her way to the top and finally capturing gold, she knows exactly who had her back when no one else did. And if WWE had waited any longer? Well, let’s just say some of her diehard supporters were ready to knock on Stamford’s front door themselves. This wasn’t just a title win—it was a long-overdue payoff for loyalty, passion, and pure heart.
