Zelina Vega is the new WWE United States Champion—and she’s using that gold for something deeply personal.
During a heartfelt conversation with Josiah Williams, Vega opened up about finally fulfilling a promise she made years ago: honoring her late father with championship gold.
After her emotional win, Vega didn’t waste any time. She took the title straight to her father’s memorial, marking a powerful full-circle moment in her wrestling journey.
“Finally getting to put singles gold on my dad’s name at the memorial. So, I’m very, very excited to finally do that,” Vega said during the interview.
Holding the championship in her hands made everything feel real. “It’s kind of mind-blowing, honestly, to see this right now. Like, to actually have it here physically… because I’ve said it, that I wanted to do it for so long.”
She explained why she doesn’t visit the memorial often—because being there brings back everything at once. “In a way, I came here like really happy, you know, but then I also like—it kind of makes it real. That’s why I kind of don’t come here that much… but if this is the closest that I can get to him and doing this, then I’m happy to do it.”
In a touching FaceTime with her mother, the moment hit even harder. Her mom told her, “You have made my day. Well, my life.”
For Vega, winning the title wasn’t just about career success—it was about legacy, family, and honoring the memory of a father who meant everything to her.
