X-Pac 1, 2, 360 Recap w/ Kenny Omega – Takeover & SummerSlam Analysis, Working Comedy Matches, Six-Star Matches, More!

Omega says he believes comedy is an essential element in professional wrestling. People often ask him if he’s embarrassed by the matches he’s worked with a blow-up doll for example, but Omega informs that those types of matches are some of the work he’s most proud of. He says it’s easy to work a serious match, but getting people to invest in a match between a man and a blow-up doll is a challenge.

Omega informs that he was really looking forward to the G1 tournament this year. He adds that it can be a challenge trying to execute a different match each night, so he makes a conscious effort to differentiate each one of his tournament matches. Working with Okada and Naito on back-to-back nights this year was tough, but he was able to leave enough in the tank on night one to ensure he was able to put on a good show the following night as well.

Omega admits to being very surprised when he heard that Dave Meltzer rated his initial match with Okada six stars. He was just minding his own business and working his matches, and all of a sudden his phone blew up with messages. He was obviously thrilled, but he quickly realised that it was going to be nearly impossible for them to follow that match. He became concerned that even a 5-star match would be a disappointment in the rematch.

He says he was thrilled to see Adam Cole debut at NXT Takeover Brooklyn 3. He informs that Cole’s debut was originally supposed to happen earlier on in the year but things came up and that didn’t happen. There were some issues, and Omega became concerned that Cole might never debut in NXT. Nonetheless, Cole appears to be a major player in NXT moving forward, and Omega is very happy for him.

Omega is unsure if he’s even fit to be the leader of The Bullet Club moving forward. He says that if you work hard and have good matches in Japan the fans begin to love you. Due to this, he has become a big babyface and it’d be hard for fans to boo him even if he did everything in his power to try to make that happen.

That sums up this week’s episode of X-Pac 1, 2, 360. You can listen to the show yourself anytime here, and I’ll catch ya next week for another recap!
