Robert Roode may be retired from in-ring action, but the challenges keep coming for the former WWE and TNA star—this time hitting close to home. Roode took to social media to share that his son, Nick Roode, had to undergo surgery shortly after scoring a game-winning goal.
The former NXT and United States Champion posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, giving fans a glimpse into what the Roode family is dealing with.
“From the game winning goal to the operating table 🤦🏻♂️ Sometimes, the life of an athlete isn’t fair. But one day, @nick.roode will have a bad ass story to tell about all this 😎. Recovery starts now! 🙏”
It’s a tough break for Nick, but clearly, he’s got the same fight in him that made his dad one of the most respected names in wrestling. The post didn’t include details on the nature of the surgery, but Roode’s message made it clear that his son’s athletic journey is far from over.
Robert Roode officially stepped away from the ring after undergoing multiple neck fusion surgeries—C5-C6 in 2022, followed by C4-C5 in 2023. During that recovery, he transitioned into a backstage producer role in WWE and confirmed his in-ring retirement last year.
Now, as Roode continues to help shape WWE behind the scenes, he’s also focused on helping his son recover and come back stronger.
