Chad Gable is currently out of action due to an injury and that obviously put a wrench in all the plans WWE had for him. While fans wonder when he’ll be back, WWE’s original plans for Chad Gable before his injury have now been revealed.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the segment on the June 23rd edition of Raw where Penta attacked Chad Gable and hit him with the armbreaker was meant to end their storyline. Gable recently found out he needs shoulder surgery, so that angle was used to write him off TV.
Meltzer noted that this meant the planned mask vs. mask match between El Grande American and Penta at SummerSlam is no longer happening. There’s no update yet on what will happen with the Speed Title that Gable held as El Grande Americano, but it will likely be decided through another tournament.
“The Raw angle where Penta laid out Gable and gave him the armbreaker was the blow-off to their angle. Gable found out he was going to need shoulder surgery so they did that as a cover angle. So the idea of El Grande Americano vs. Penta mask vs. mask at SummerSlam is not happening. No word on what will do about the Speed title that he held as Grande Americano. Well, likely another tournament.”
As previously reported, Chad Gable is legitimately dealing with a shoulder injury severe enough to require surgery. It is also expected that he could be out of action for six months or longer, so fans shouldn’t expect him to be back before 2025 unless he makes a miraculous recovery.
Chad Gable’s injury has put a stop to an exciting storyline and now WWE has to change its plans right before one of its biggest events of the year. Regardless, we hope Gable returns better than ever so that he can show the world what he’s truly made of.
