Rapper Westside Gunn recently went nuclear on WWE and cut all ties with them after he was kicked out of an episode of RAW in Buffalo. With that in mind, WWE’s internal reaction to the whole situation has been revealed.

While speaking on the post-RAW show, Sean Ross Sapp explained that the situation between Westside Gunn and WWE has been building for a while. He noted that Westside Gunn is a huge wrestling fan who genuinely supports the business and even helps create opportunities for people in it.

However, WWE was not happy about the rapper using what they believe is their intellectual property.

“I was told about this when it happened. Westside Gunn is a massive wrestling fan, really supports wrestling, really loves wrestling, provides people jobs and opportunities in wrestling. And I know that WWE was not thrilled about him using what they feel is their intellectual property.”

This all started after Westside Gunn said he was kicked out of Monday Night RAW in his hometown just a few minutes into the show, even though he spent a lot of money on tickets, travel, and a hotel. He said this really hurt him because he has supported WWE for years and helped make wrestling look cool to many people who stopped watching.

“Monday night raw starts at 8pm I was kicked out by 803 after spending 5k for a seat plus travel, hotel etc…. in my own city for absolutely NOTHING!!!! No lie the kid in me heart broke that day…

For YEAAAAAARS I mean NOBODY w/ 2 feet has spent the amount of $ I have supporting and pushing a brand I’ve loved since I could remember… I made ppl who hated the product watch it again. I made it look kool, when at the time ppl thought it was nerdy.”

The rapper also said that someone in WWE told him to remove wrestling references from his music or there would be serious problems. After all of this, Westside Gunn decided he is done supporting WWE.

“I was threatened to take everything out of my music which I only did to pay homage or my whole catalog would be demolished… and everybody knows how hard I worked coming from Buffalo.”

This situation shows how messy things can get when passion, art, and big companies collide. Westside Gunn clearly loves wrestling, and he has supported it for years. But WWE is very serious about protecting anything they consider their property.

At the end of the day, it’s a disappointing ending: not just for Westside Gunn, but for the fans who felt he brought a new energy and culture into wrestling.

Did WWE go too far, or were they protecting their brand?
Should Westside Gunn have been treated differently given his support for the culture? Sound off in the comments.
