Drew McIntyre and Damian Priest are set to go to war at WrestleMania 41—and now we know who penned the chaos that unfolded on the April 11 episode of WWE SmackDown.
According to Fightful Select, the mastermind behind the intense segment between Priest and McIntyre was Cristian Scovell, who wrote the promo and physical altercation that erupted just days before the biggest show of the year.
WWE had promoted a face-to-face confrontation between the two on SmackDown, but McIntyre had other plans. As Damian Priest made his way to the ring, McIntyre ambushed him from behind in a surprise assault. He tore off his eye patch—one he’s been wearing since Priest “blinded” him weeks ago—and made it clear he’s more dangerous than ever.
“I don’t need this anymore,” McIntyre snarled as he ripped off the patch, revealing that he had faked the injury to lull Priest into a false sense of security.
After the first beatdown, Priest wasn’t done either. He rushed the ring moments later and the two tore into each other again, trading fists before being pulled apart. Later in the show, it was officially confirmed that McIntyre vs. Priest at WrestleMania 41 will now be a Sin City Street Fight, raising the stakes even higher.
This feud has had no shortage of brutality—and Scovell’s segment added fuel to an already red-hot rivalry with a perfectly timed fake-out and a brawl that lit up the arena.
Do you think McIntyre faking the injury gives him the upper hand heading into WrestleMania? Or will Damian Priest make him regret the mind games? Sound off in the comments and let us know who you’re backing in the Sin City Street Fight.
