WWE has their eye on ever corner of the pro wrestling industry at this point, as they are always on the search for new talent. AEW’s roster is not immune to WWE scouts’ eyes, and they may want a piece of Powerhouse Hobbs.
We have seen a few AEW stars leave the company for WWE’s greener pastures. It appears that Powerhouse Hobbs may be next on their wishlist. Powerhouse Hobbs continues to draw attention across the industry, even while firmly positioned in All Elite Wrestling.
Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that there are people in WWE who are very high on Hobbs. The note stands out because Hobbs is not a free agent and is currently active on AEW television.
Hobbs is part of The Opps stable, as he is aligned with Samoa Joe and Katsuyori Shibata. The group holds the AEW World Trios Championships, which is Hobbs’ first reign with gold in the company. It is also a sign that AEW looks to him as a power player.
Powerhouse Hobbs’ current run comes after a knee injury that sidelined him longer than expected. Hobbs returned earlier than projected, as Tony Khan started to ease him back into tag matches. Since then, he has been regularly featured and involved in spotlighted storylines.
Powerhouse Hobbs is viewed as a priority talent by Tony Khan. We will have to see what happens, and when his AEW deal runs out, because that injury hiatus could have caused a freeze to his deal. WWE may have to wait a while, but his next contract talks will be interesting.
What’s your take on WWE’s interest in Powerhouse Hobbs? Do you think they would make a bigger star out of him than Tony Khan can? Let us know what you think in the comments section!
