WWE: Unreal Director Chris Weaver has revealed what WWE hopes to accomplish with the upcoming Netflix show, which will give an in-depth look into the creative process in the company.

While speaking on Pro Wrestling & MMA Interviews with Jimmy V3, WWE: Unreal Director Chris Weaver was asked if the goal of the new WWE series was to reach more people by showing a real and personal side of WWE stars, like how Hard Knocks does for NFL players.

Weaver said that WWE saw how well other behind-the-scenes sports shows on Netflix were doing and wanted to try the same idea to bring in new viewers. He explained that WWE hoped the series would help more people get interested, grow their audience, and bring in new fans.

Weaver also said that some people in the wrestling world don’t fully agree with showing so much of what happens behind the scenes. But he believes the most important thing is getting new fans to watch and enjoy WWE.

“I think that was a goal for WWE for sure—was like, they’ve seen how these behind-the-scenes follow doc series on Netflix have sort of propelled leagues and, you know, athletes and opened up to new audiences. And I think that was a major goal for them—like, hey, let’s see if we can get more people to watch this thing and, you know, expand our footprint, expand our audience, our fan base. So yes—and hopefully we’re going to do that. I know it’s been a polarizing discussion in the wrestling realm. But my hope is—the next fan coming in is what we’re after. You know, bringing in new fans.”

WWE: Unreal will be releasing on Netflix on July 29th and it will feature episodes based on Cody Rhodes, The Rock, John Cena and others. Therefore, we will have to wait and see whether the first season will turn out to be a hit and bring in more fans, as that’s exactly what WWE wants in the first place.
