WWE’s acquisition of AAA may be about to pay off in a big way — because the company is reportedly looking to lock down more lucha stars.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is actively working on signing additional wrestlers from Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide to full-time contracts. The company is also reportedly helping sort out work visas so those talents can regularly compete in the United States.
The report noted that WWE is evaluating AAA performers who are appearing in meaningful roles on TV to determine which ones could be offered contracts. So this isn’t just casual scouting — it sounds like a real pipeline could be forming.
Some of those crossover moments are already happening. During the Royal Rumble, AAA stars Mr. Iguana and La Parka popped up in the men’s match — a surprise moment that showed WWE is already willing to pull talent from the promotion onto its biggest stages.
The move follows WWE’s earlier decision to sign El Hijo del Vikingo directly to a WWE deal — a rare distinction, since most AAA talent are signed under the Mexican holding company Fillip as part of the new ownership structure. Bottom line: WWE is quietly shopping for their next breakout lucha stars.
