Je’ Von Evans just signed with Monday Night RAW — but fans watching on TV never saw it happen. That’s because WWE chose to air the contract signing during a commercial break, and now we’re learning that several people backstage were not happy about that decision.

On WrestleVotes Radio via Fightful Select, Joey Votes broke the news that some WWE talent and staff were confused about why such a big moment for Evans was pushed off television.

“We spoke to a source who told us that several people backstage were puzzled by the decision to have Je:von Evans sign his RAW contract during a commercial break this past Monday — feeling it took away from what could have been a more memorable moment for the general audience,” Joey said.

To be clear, this isn’t believed to be a sign that WWE is souring on Evans. In fact, the report emphasized that the company still has high hopes for him. But that didn’t stop the frustration over how this signing moment was handled.

“I thought this was a total miss... You give him his moment, you let him sign the contract — you do it in a commercial break? I’m lost. And I know people backstage were as well,” Joey added.

Co-host TC chimed in to defend the move from a different perspective. According to him, WWE may have done this intentionally in hopes of creating a viral moment online instead of on TV. But even TC admitted the rollout may not have gone as WWE hoped.

“There’s a big emphasis on online-only content that they want to have only seen on the Internet,” TC explained. “I think this is one of those things where it was big enough that they thought they could get away with putting it on the Internet... and didn’t necessarily need to be on TV.”

“It kind of backfired a little bit... Now we’re talking about Javon Evans, we’re talking about him being RAW — it’s kind of delivering what it was intended to do in the long run,” he said.

If that wasn’t enough, Joey pointed out another glaring issue — the contract folder used during the segment wasn’t even up to date.

“The folder that had the contract in it had the old RAW logo on it,” he said. “Didn’t feel like WWE had their P’s and Q’s lined up for this segment at all.”

WWE may have had good intentions, but backstage insiders clearly see this as a missed opportunity to spotlight one of their hottest new prospects. If the company is serious about making Je’Von Evans a breakout star, they’ll need to handle future moments with a bit more care.

Do you think WWE should’ve aired Je’Von Evans’ signing on TV? Or was the digital-only move smart strategy? Drop your thoughts in the comments — we want to hear from you.
