WWE is taking its talent hunt to Hawaii. The company will have a recruitment booth at the seventh annual Hawaii Fit Expo, giving athletes, fitness personalities, and anyone who thinks they have the look and personality for WWE a chance to get in front of the machine.

According to KHON2 in Hawaii, WWE will be part of the two-day event at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall, with the booth open on both Saturday and Sunday.

“The expo, regarded as Hawaii’s premier sports and healthy lifestyle event, will host a WWE recruitment booth throughout the two-day event, giving attendees the chance to learn more about opportunities with the global sports entertainment company.”

This is not WWE just sitting around waiting for independent wrestlers to show up anymore. The company has changed how it finds talent in a big way. WWE still looks at indie wrestlers, but they are also going after college athletes, influencers, fitness models, and people who already know how to stand out.

That has become a major part of WWE’s recruiting system. The company wants people who look good on camera, can talk, can move, and can connect with an audience. Being athletic helps, but it is not the only thing that matters. Longtime wrestling reporter and author Marc Raimondi of ESPN explained how much the recruiting game has changed.

“I think it has changed a great deal. For those watching WWE nowadays, almost all of the younger talent has a background not necessarily in professional wrestling, but in Division I athletics. Back in the ’80s, it was bodybuilders and bouncers. Now they want college football players. There are a lot of gymnasts, volleyball players, and the list goes on and on.”

That is exactly why a fitness expo makes sense for WWE. They are not just looking for someone who can bump in a ring on day one. They are looking for raw material. Big personalities. Strong athletes. People who can walk into a room and make others pay attention. Raimondi also said recruits need to understand that WWE is not only about being the best athlete in the room. It is about having something people remember.

“I think people should keep an open mind because WWE is like a variety show, and there are so many different ways a person can get over, which means becoming popular and making fans want to see you.”

He added that standing out can come down to presentation, speaking ability, or just having a look that grabs people.

“That could be something about your look, your presentation or the way you speak. That’s really what they’re looking for more than anything because this is the entertainment business. If you can stand out in a way that makes you relatable or makes audiences want to buy a ticket or tune in to watch you, that’s a huge advantage.”

WWE will also hold tryouts in Minnesota during SummerSlam weekend, which has become an annual tradition for the company. That means the Hawaii Fit Expo booth is another stop in WWE’s bigger search for the next wave of talent.

The message is pretty clear. WWE is not only scouting wrestling schools anymore. They are going where the athletes are, where the fitness crowd is, and where future stars might not even realize they are future stars yet.

Do you think WWE should keep focusing on athletes and influencers, or should the company go back to signing more independent wrestlers? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comments section below.
