The pro wrestling business isn’t for everyone, and WWE’s bright lights get a lot of attention, which comes with a lot of criticism as well. While not all releases have their reasoning revealed, it seems that the company had a good reason for some cuts.

During the Impaulsive podcast, Michael Cole stated that he didn’t think he would have made it in WWE if social media was around when he was green and thrown onto television after Jim Ross fell ill. Cole had a minimal amount of time in the pro wrestling business, but he was put on live television next to Jerry “The King” Lawler.

When the point was brought up by Logan Paul’s co-host that heat in pro wrestling can be a good thing, Michael Cole had to make something clear. Not all heat is a good thing, because it can also mean someone is bad at their job.

“There’s two different types of heat. There’s heat like Logan Paul gets where fans boo him, but there’s a kinda heat called ‘go-away heat’ where they boo you because they think it’s a bad character, a bad product, a bad something on the air. We had some announcer recently that didn’t work out, and you could go online and see 99% of the people hated them. You know at that point. You feel it in yourself and then you go and realize, and you listen to some of that, then you know he’s not gonna make it.”

Michael Cole didn’t name anyone specially, but WWE has released a few people in recent memory from the announce team. Kevin Patrick was released in January 2024, but there have been others. Samantha Irvin did leave WWE, but her departure was on her own accord.

Although not all announcers have made it in WWE, Michael Cole has certainly stood the test of time, as he is still a featured face on WWE television. Lee Fitting has also given Cole the ability to show his true personality on television.
