AEW and WWE have been competing for years, and lately WWE has been setting up events to take place on the same day and even same time as AEW shows. In fact, it appears that this will continue as WWE plans to hold at least two more events that clash with AEW’s schedule this year.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez stated that he was told there will be at least two more times when WWE and AEW will have head-to-head battles during long weekends.
“I was told that at this point there are at least two other instances coming up this year where they plan on doing head-to-head AEW battles and these big long weekends.”
This comes after WWE scheduled Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12, which is the same day as AEW’s All In: Texas at the Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas and they even held the NXT Battleground Premium Live Event at the same time as AEW’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view.
It didn’t really stop there as WWE has also booked the Great American Bash event to take place on Saturday, July 12 at State Farm Arena and it will also be in direct competition with All In: Texas.
It’s clear that WWE sees AEW as competition and will continue to run events against them, but Tony Khan recently made it clear he will not back down and is confident about AEW’s chances against WWE. Therefore, we’ll have to see how AEW will deal with WWE’s tactics this year.
