Danhausen’s WWE debut wasn’t just divisive among fans — it was controversial behind the scenes as well.
Following his mystery crate reveal at Elimination Chamber on February 28, Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer shared new insight into how Danhausen’s signing was viewed internally within WWE. According to Meltzer, the decision to bring him in was not universally supported.
“People pushed for him, and there were people who didn’t want him. This was not a unanimous decision or anything like that. I would guess that the people who didn’t want him are thinking, ‘Hmm, sure didn’t work out so well this time.’”
That comment suggests WWE leadership and creative were divided on whether Danhausen was the right fit for the company. His theatrical debut — which featured a coffin reveal and vampire-like presentation — generated mixed reactions from the live crowd and online, further fueling the internal debate. Meltzer also compared the situation to past WWE character experiments, noting the uncertainty around how Danhausen will ultimately be used.
“But in time, time will tell. He’ll get another chance. Maybe he’ll be the Gobbledy Gooker and maybe he’ll be R-Truth – one or the other.”
The comparison highlights the unpredictable nature of character-driven gimmicks in WWE, where some evolve into long-term fan favorites while others fade quickly.
Despite the mixed internal reaction, Danhausen has officially signed with WWE and is expected to appear on upcoming programming. His debut has already sparked major conversation, and his future will likely depend on how audiences respond in the weeks ahead.
