The January 6 episode of NXT brought New Year’s Evil. This yearly event is usually a fun show, and the night was full of important matches. That being said, not all of them were able to go down as scheduled.
The night featured Thea Hail defending the NXT Women’s North American Championship against Blake Monroe. Hail had Jordynne Grace at ringside, which factored into a physical matchup from start to finish.
This match didn’t even get the entrances taken care of. Instead, Blake Monroe jumped Thea Hail as she made her way out first. Then Monroe beat Thea down, throwing her into the ring steps to brutally assault the champion. Monroe sent Hail into the barricade, breaking it with the back of her head.
The NXT officials flooded the scene, and then they called the match off. This was not the match that anyone expected to see kick off New Year’s Evil. For now, Thea Hail is still champion. It will be interesting to see what happens next.
Thea Hail was laid out at ringside as Blake Monroe was escorted out of the arena by officials. Then Ricky Saints made his way out to cut a promo in the ring as the show carried on.
Later on, NXT General Manager Ava banned Blake Monroe from the building. With a WWE main roster call-up report churning in the rumor mill, only time will tell what happens to her next, or where we see her. Later on, Thea Hail decided to put her title on the line anyway.
