Our main event is the tag team ladder match and the Champions are out first!

NXT Tag Team Championship’s Ladder Match

(C) The Author’s of Pain Vs. D.I.Y

The bell rings and the two teams brawl but Razar and Akam quickly floor the challengers. They pose together in the middle of the ring and D.I.Y use the advantage to knock Akam from the ring, then Rezar soon after. D.I.Y look up at the titles before climbing outside and grabbing some ladders.

Rezar grabs Gargano and tosses him head over heels into the barricade. Akam attacks Ciampa but the vets regain control and Gargano returns with a flip from the apron to take the big man out. Gargano and Ciampa find the biggest ladder available, on the stage, and carry it down to ringside. Ciampa gets sandwiched between the ladder and the ring by AOP but Gargano hits a suicide dive, through the ropes and through the ladder to both men!

Back inside the ring now, D.I.Y grab a ladder and clobber Akam with it. They hit Rezar with it as well, after he tried to stop them. The former Champions stomp Rezar in the corner, then look for Poetry in Motion but Rezar caught Gargano in mid-air and slams him down into Ciampa. Rezar and Akam set-up a ladder in the middle of the ring and Rezar starts climbing slowly. Ciampa hits them both with a ladder, then he and Gargano hold either side of a ladder and slam it down into the backs of AOP.

Akam holding the folded ladder in his hands, Ciampa tries to climb it as he holds it. Needless to say Akam tosses him off. A ladder stands in the middle of the ring and AOP look for the Super Collider but Gargano and Ciampa grab either side of the ladder and start climbing up but AOP shove the ladder over and both D.I.Y land on the top rope. Ciampa is limping.

AOP force Ciampa into the corner, then place a ladder between the ropes in front of him. They proceed to kick the ladder into Ciampa repeatedly. Both D.I.Y down, Akam and Rezar place a ladder and Rezar climbs as Akam holds it steady. Halfway-up, Rezar climbs down and they go back to beating on D.I.Y.

Akam and Rezar grab a ladder between them and slam it into Gargano and Ciampa. The AOP leave the ring and grab another ladder from under the ring, a bigger one than the last they had. The giant ladder is still set-up at ringside. AOP set two ladders from the ring across to the barricade. They then grab Gargano and Ciampa and look to powerbomb them through the ladders. D.I.Y climb down and into the ring, then double attack AOP and place them on the ladders. D.I.Y climb the giant ladder in the middle and leap off onto Akam and Rezar!!

Desperate times call for desperate measures for #DIY @JohnnyGargano & @ProjectCiampa! #NXTTakeOver #LadderMatch pic.twitter.com/2mPApz4n4i

That was a nasty fall for Johnny Gargano! All four men are down. Tommaso Ciampa is the first man to his feet and he stumbles into the ring. Ciampa sets a ladder in the centre of the ring and begins climbing but Akam joins him on the opposite side. Gargano appears in the ring with another ladder and places it near the main ladder, not beside. Rezar climbs the other ladder with Gargano. All four men are atop ladders. Ciampa falls down and Gargano moves over to his ladder and Tommaso shoves Rezar and his ladder over. Gargano knocks Akam from the main ladder and he;s all alone beneath the titles!

Paul Ellering runs into the ring and shoves Gargano off of the ladder. Ellering tips the ladder over and Gargano watches, before hitting the old man with a superkick! Akam returns and runs through Gargano. AOP are not happy. Akam ponds Ciampa in the corner, then the Champions set a ladder in the corner. They slam Ciampa into the ladder multiple times, then club him against it. Ellering is still down at ringside and he give them the thumbs-down to end the match.

#DIY‘s @JohnnyGargano has NO patience for @PaulElleringWWE‘s meddling! #NXTTakeOver #LadderMatch pic.twitter.com/acIR5l6twT

Akam and Rezar grab a ladder and use it to prop Ciampa to his feet. Gargano shoves Ciampa out of the way and AOP smash him in the face with the ladder. Akam and Rezar climb the ladder and Rezar has a hold of the titles. Ciampa storms up behind Rezar and German suplexes him off through the ladder in the corner!!

Akam is still atop the ladder in the middle of the ring but Gargano crawls over and holds his ankle. Akam climbs down and attacks Johnny. Akam lifts the ladder above his head but eats kicks from both Ciampa and Gargano before falling to his knees with the ladder over his head. D.I.Y hit the Meeting In The Middle!

Ciampa helps Gargano to his feet and they grab a ladder. Gargano can barely stand. They set the ladder in the centre of the ring and start climbing either side. Gargano and Ciampa have a belt each but Akam and Rezar toss the ladder away, leaving them dangling! The Author’s of Pain grab Ciampa and Gargano and powerbomb them both before hitting the Super Collider. Akam and Rezar then climb the ladder and grab the belts!

Winners: The Author’s of Pain

The #AOP are STILL undefeated…. and STILL your #WWENXT #TagTeamChampions! @Akam_WWE @Rezar_WWE #NXTTakeOver #LadderMatch pic.twitter.com/cZCA2ZXFIg

After the match the Author’s of Pain grab their titles and walk up the ramp with Paul Ellering. We cut back to the ring and Gargano and Ciampa are sitting in the middle of the ring, as the fans chant their name.

They climb to their feet and get a standing ovation from the crowd. This feels like a goodbye, if so, what a fantastic tag team they have been. They finally climb out of the ring and walk up the ramp as we see some replays from the match. They stand on the stage, arms around each other and soak in the atmosphere until…

WHAT is @ProjectCiampa doing to @JohnnyGargano?! It seems #AOP has fulfilled their prophecy to truly END #DIY… #NXTTakeOver pic.twitter.com/U8PJdqqWyc

What the hell?! That was an amazing swerve I did not see coming. Ciampa threw Gargano into the stage, nailed him with his running knee, several times, before jumping off of the stage with White Noise through tables! I think we have our main event for the next TakeOver! What an end to NXT TakeOver: Chicago, and now this match as the main event makes total sense. The fans seem legitimately sad and angry. They start a “Fu$k you Ciampa” chant. That is how you do a swerve!

What did you think of the show? What was the match of the night? Let us know in the comments and be sure to come back here tomorrow night for Backlash results! Until then, safe travels!
